LEESBURG — During a caucus held Tuesday, Feb. 6, Christina Archer was elected to fill the town council position formerly occupied by Larry Richey.

Richey, who had served as the 2017 council president, resigned from his position on the board at the Jan. 9 council meeting.

Tyler Haines and Christina Archer were the two candidates who filed to fill the position. Both were given three minutes to address the caucus prior to the vote being taken.

Haines has lived in Kosciusko County most of his life. His family has operated Stacy’s Restaurant for 45 years and Haines is now the owner and operator. He is also an attorney with a law office in Leesburg.

Archer was born in Leesburg but moved to Texas in the 90s to teach high school. After retiring in 2010, she returned to Leesburg and currently lives in the same house she grew up in, a home that has been in her family for over sixty years.

“It’s a tough vote,” said Leesburg Town Council President Tom Moore. “A tough vote.”

Archer, who spoke of her desire to stay informed and involved in town events during her three minute speech, was elected to fill the vacancy.

“Leesburg has given so much to me and my family and I want a chance to give back to the community,” Archer stated.

Leesburg Town Council Vice-President Doug Jones said, “It’s nice to have two very qualified people show up. Thank you both so much.”

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity,” said Archer. “I really love this little town and I really want to see good things happen here.”
